Lion Carl Young, PCC
Personal History
Lion Carl Young was born in Peterborough, Ontario, and grew up in Willowdale, Ontario. He attended elementary school in Oriole and high school at De La Salle College in Toronto. In 1965 Lion Carl graduated from the University of Guelph in Agricultural Science. Lion Carl, after graduating university was employed in the agricultural field for 5 years. Lion Carl then moved to Claremont in 1972. Carl and his wife Elizabeth reside there today. After leaving the agricultural field Lion Carl was employed for 26 years in medical sciences specializing in cardiovascular equipment, sales and management. In 1998 Lion Carl was appointed as a Presiding Justice of the Peace, Ontario Court of Justice, for the Province of Ontario. |
Lions Club History
Lion Carl became a Lion in 1968 when, at the age of 24, he joined the North York Lions Club and later in 1972 transferred to the Claremont Lions Club where he remains an active member. Throughout this time Lion Carl has maintained perfect attendance.

District and Multiple District Service
Lion Carl has served as Club President, District A-16 Governor and Multiple District "A" Chairman. Subsequently he served as MD"A" Committee Chair for Promotion, Convention advisory, Research and Long Range Planning, Sight Conservation, Administrative Committee and most recently Hearing Conservation.
At the District level Lion Carl was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lions Clubs Camp Kirk Foundation, a position he held for 13 years.

Additional Lions Service
Lion Carl served as Ontario Director for the Lions Foundation of Canada. During his tenure Lion Carl served as Treasurer, and Vice Chairman of the Board.
Lion Carl has held similar positions with Canine Vision Canada and Hearing Ear Dogs of Canada.
In 2005 Lion Carl had the honour of being selected by Past International President Tae-Sup Lee as a Sector Coordinator for Campoaign SightFirst II.

Additional Community Service
Lion Carl is also involved in a variety of non-Lion community services. He has served as a member of the Ontario Association of Committees of Adjustment and Consent Authorities. He had also served with the City of Pickering's Committee of Adjustment in the early 1980's and again starting in 1994 to the present. Carl was appointed in 1995 - 1999 by Order in Council as a Public Board Member on the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. Carl served as both Treasurer and Vice Chairman. Carl was appointed in 1993 to present as a director of the Friends of the Learning Disabled Foundation.

Carl and Elizabeth
Lion Carl contributes to his community through his involvement in the Claremont District Lions Club as well as a variety of other organizations. In his spare time Lion Carl enjoys reading, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with Elizabeth at their cottage on Pigeon Lake.
The Lions of Multiple District "A" understand that the key to successful service at the Lions CLubs International Board level requires both committment and the ability to work as part of a larger team for the betterment of Lionism. We believe that Lion Carl has the knowledge, commitment and the vision to be an outstanding International director from Canada for the term 2009 - 2011.
